The agreement was reached during the leaders' talks this morning in Hà Nội, which RoK's news agency Yonhap called a "Summit."
RoK becomes the fifth country to set up a strategic partnership with Việt Nam after China, Japan, India, and the Russian Federation, meanwhile Việt Nam is the third partner at the level with the East Asian country following China and Russia.
The bilateral ties have undergone unprecedented advancements since the two countries set up diplomatic ties in 1992 and that would be the sound reason for the two sides to forge the relationship.
The leaders also agreed to set up dialogue between the two countries' defense and foreign ministries to foster cooperation in security and political ties.

They highly evaluated the fact that bilateral trade between the two countries increased 20 times from US $500 million in 1992 to US $10 billion in 2008,
They were unanimous that more efforts should be given to double bilateral trade to US $20 in 2015 and agreed to launch a joint study on the feasibility of a bilateral free trade agreement before the year's end.
Especially, President Lee recognized Việt Nam's market economy status, a move that could significantly improve protection for Vietnamese businesses and their products in trade with the RoK.
The Korean leader appreciated Việt Nam's valuable contributions to the world's peace and stability during the past years, especially since Việt Nam became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
