Thailand to boost number of NGV service stations
Thailand will establish more natural gas vehicle (NGV) service stations in 2008, upping the number to 330 from 180 stations presently to cope with rising demand from motorists, a senior Energy Ministry official said. Metta Banturngsuk, director-general of the Energy Business Department, said Thai domestic demand for NGVs is seen to be increasing because NGVs are considered environmentally friendly, inexpensive and safe for motorists. Currently, NGV fuel costs 8.50 baht (US$0.27 ~ 4300 VNĐ) per kilogram, which is much less than gasoline or gasohol. But motorists, especially taxi drivers, have complained that it is difficult to find NGV filling stations, even in Bangkok, and almost impossible in the north. (April 14, 2008)
